Next Steps
UNICEF continues to work with Government and NGO partners to meet the above need areas in 2006 with particular focus on the following projects:
- Coordination and policy development for the water, sanitation and hygiene sector to achieve targets set by the Government of Sri Lanka in achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
- Improving water and sanitation for war affected, IDP and returnee families • Construction of Water Supply schemes in Mullativu, Trikovil and Tangalle
- Establishing a sustainable water quality surveillance system
- Training teachers and facilitators in Primary Schools to promote hygiene practices in a participatory way
- Improving water supply and sanitation facilities in schools and health centers
