On 28 May 2008, the Australia National Committee for UNICEF launched a new partnership with the Australian Football Federation (FFA) to benefit vulnerable children in Australia and throughout the Asia Pacific region. The FFA partnership, called "Level Playing Field," is supporting UNICEF community development programs for children in Papua New Guinea and elsewhere in south-east Asia, as well as indigenous communities within Australia. In addition, donations collected at the Qantas Socceroos FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Iraq during 2008 will support projects for children in Iraq, and donations collected at matches against China during 2008 will support UNICEF's emergency relief following the earthquake in Sichuan Province. The "Level the Playing Field" partnership for children spans the Australian men's team, the Socceroos women's team, the Matildas, and the Australian A-League. It is being promoted extensively at the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches in Australia and overseas through match day announcements, advertisements featuring QANTAS Socceroo ambassadors, and promotion to Australian football supporters.
