The UK National Committee for UNICEF has worked in partnership for over 5 years with Manchester United, in order to raise money and awareness for education and child protection programmes, focused particularly on the End Childhood Exploitation Campaign.  Since 1999, Manchester United has raised over $1.9 million for children under the banner "United for UNICEF", drawing attention to the plight of children in Afghanistan, southern Africa, Brazil, India, Iraq, Thailand, and Uganda.  In recognition of his ongoing commitment to the partnership, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was appointed a UNICEF UK Ambassador.
