Liyi, 17, of China.

Ariel Lee, 17-years-old, is a youth representative from China with a double mission: to learn as much as she can and also to explode some myths about China.

"I know a lot of people are puzzled and confused because China is a socialist country." Along with being able to explain her country, she sees her presence at the meeting as a "fantastic chance to get to know different stories and better understand different cultures".

Liyi, as she prefers to be called, is in New York attending the third Preparatory Committee meeting of the UN General Assembly Special Session on Children.

An active young ambassador, she previously participated in a regional youth forum in Thailand and at the Fifth Ministerial Consultation in Beijing, both held in May this year. She was chosen to come to New York from among hundreds of children who responded to an invitation from Save the Children.

Liyi's top concern is the mental health of children. She sees her key contribution at the Prepcom as voicing this concern on behalf of her country, and talking about the general problems facing children in China and throughout the world.
