Panel: Countering child Trafficking
10-11:30am

Mary Robinson, High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Juan Somavia, Director-General of the ILO, headline this important discussion of the growing global problem of child trafficking. A host of NGOs active in fighting the trade will participate, along with a youth delegate from Nepal. Trafficking in children is driven by a complex mixture of poverty, hopelessness, and criminal interests. Trafficked children are exploited as sex workers, child soldiers, and labourers. Solutions and rehabilitation for affected children will be addressed.

Healthy Children for A Healthy World

Dag Hammarskjold Auditorium

Paediatric Associations from around the world gather to discuss how village and community doctors can be harnessed as advocates for general public health. Leading paediatricians from Africa, Asia, the middle East, Latin America and the industialized world will be featured in a discussion focused on sharing lessons learned in public health efforts. The session will conclude with a Call to Action to mobilize over 500,000 paediatricians world-wide to support the goals set at the Special Session.


HIV/AIDS Press Briefing

UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy and UNAIDS Executive Director Peter Piot will appear jointly to talk about young people and HIV.


Panel: Orphans and Other Children Made Vulnerable by AIDS
1:15-2:45pm
Conference Room 3

A growing global consensus on how to address the tragedy of children orphaned or made vulnerable by AIDS will be the central theme of this discussion, joined by USAID, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and UNICEF. Governments will be challenged to accelerate their responses.


Inter-Generational Dialogue: Heads of State and Children from Europe

Open to journalists. This session will feature direct interaction and discussion between youth delegates and the political leaders from their home region.


Building A Global Movement for Children
3-6 pm
Conference Room 4

Join a wide-ranging discussion of how to move forward toward achieving the goals of the Special Session on Children. A large cast of organizations involved in creating a "global movement" for children will bring their perspectives and best practice to the discussion.


UNICEF Press Briefing
4-4:30pm
Room 226

UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy will provide an update on where things stand and what needs to happen beyond the Special Session.
