NGO coverage of the Special Session
Updates on the Special Session on Children
The Child Rights Information Network (CRIN) played a key
role in disseminating information on the Special Session on
Children and its preparatory process. CRIN made use of its
website, CRINMAIL e-mail service, newsletter and Special Session
Updates to provide regular and up-to-date information on the
Special Session and its preparatory processes, the status
of the outcome document and actions being taken to further
the Global Movement for Children.
NGOs, particularly those at country level, were well-informed
on the Special Session on Children, and civil society organizations
were encouraged to become more involved in country and regional
level activities leading up and following the Special Session
on Children.
CRIN is a global network that disseminates information about
children's rights nationally, regionally and internationally
among non-governmental organizations, United Nations agencies,
intergovernmental organizations, educational institutions
and other child rights experts. The network has a membership
of over 1,100 organizations in over 100 countries. It strives
to improve children's lives by exchanging information about
child rights and promoting the Convention on the Rights of
the Child.
Copies of Special Session Updates and Newsletter are available
at the CRIN website.
On the Record - a public voice for NGOs
The Steering Group of the NGO Steering Committee was also
responsible for publication of the daily NGO newspaper, On
the Record, which was inaugurated during the second Preparatory
Committee meeting and kept the issues alive with electronic
versions between meetings. Published by the Advocacy Project,
On the Record was lively, informative and hard-hitting and
put forth a strong NGO voice.
Covering the issues closest to NGOs, On the Record reported
on the debates and resolutions taking place around the most
sensitive issues in the outcome document. From its first day
in business, On the Record ensured and encouraged the full
participation of young journalists, by providing training
and allowing them to manage the editorial content of several
issues.
All the copies of On the Record writen before and during the
Special Session can be found at the NGO
Committee website.
You can also visit the Advocacy
Project website.
