Information for NGOs
Frequently Asked Questions
Last year, I pre-registered for the September 2001 event.
What should I do to attend now?
All accredited NGOs will receive an invitation letter with
a new pre-registration form. Complete the form and submit
it by fax. A confirmation letter will then be sent to you
by fax.
Must the representatives be the same people named last
year?
No. Use the new pre-registration form to indicate the name
of all four representatives.
Can all 4 representatives from my NGO be present at the
official sessions at the same time?
No. Due to space and security concerns, only two non-transferrable
passes that allow access to the official sessions will be
issued per organization. Each NGO is responsible for ensuring
that the passes are rotated equitably among their four representatives.
Young people and their chaperones are counted as part of the
four-member delegation.
Have new supporting events been organized?
No new NGO supporting events will be organized. The NGO
Steering Group will send re-confirmation letters to NGOs that
were confirmed for September 2001 supporting events. New dates
will be indicated.
Where can I get official documents on the Special Session?
All official documents including a programme of the Special
Session are posted on the UNICEF website. http://www.unicef.org/specialsession/documentation/
A programme of supporting events will also be available closer
to the dates of the session on this website. Hard copies of
all documents are available at UNICEF House, 3 U.N. Plaza,
Room 222-2
Where can I get a copy of the latest version of the outcome
document?
The latest draft of the outcome document issued by the UN
is available on the UNICEF web. http://www.unicef.org/specialsession/documentation/
The document was discussed at informal sessions during the
3rd PrepCom and negotiations will continue from 29 April to
2 May. When the document is finalized, it will become available
on the UNICEF web.
My organization would like to attend the Special Session.
Can we still apply for accreditation?
The process of approval of NGO accreditation was open from
January to October 2000, allowing for appropriate information
and preparation. This process has now
been closed.
