John Pepper: Chairman of the Board, Procter &
Gamble
John Pepper has been Chairman of the Board at Procter
& Gamble since 1995. He joined the company as a
staff assistant in 1963.
In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Mr.
Pepper has dedicated himself to a wide range of humanitarian
causes. He is a member of the Ohio Governor's Education
and Business Advisory Group and Vice-Chairman of the
Cincinnati Youth Collaborative. He also serves on the
Board of Partnerships for a Drug Free America, the National
Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, and the Cincinnati
United Way. Mr. Pepper is co-chair of the Underground
Railroad Freedom Center, a non-profit organization dedicated
to educating the public about underground freedom movements.
He is also a member of the United States Advisory Committee
for Trade and Policy Negotiations and a trustee of the
Christ Church Endowment Fund.
A native of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, Mr. Pepper holds
a bachelor's degree from Yale University. He has been
granted honorary degrees from four universities, including
St. Petersburg University in the Russian Federation.
He lives with his wife, Francie, and their four children
in Wyoming, Ohio.
Mr. Pepper will formally retire as Procter & Gamble
Chairman in July 2002 but will remain a director of
the company.
