DUBLIN, 10 DECEMBER 2001 - Pierce Brosnan, the internationally acclaimed actor, has been appointed as a Special Patron of UNICEF Ireland.
"I am delighted to be involved with UNICEF, the world's largest children's organization," said Brosnan following the announcement. "It is something I have wanted to do for a long time, to give something back. I am especially interested in highlighting the tragic impact of war on children, who are always the innocent casualties of conflicts around the world."
"In the last 10 years, more than 2 million children have died as a result of wars, more than 6 million children have been injured or permanently disabled. My role will be to help UNICEF Ireland in whatever way I can to highlight this and to ensure that UNICEF continues to be able to provide emergency relief and assistance to these children," he added.
"We are thrilled that Brosnan has accepted our invitation to become a Special Patron," said Maura Quinn, Executive Director of UNICEF Ireland. "He joins Liam Neeson who has also shown enormous compassion for children in difficult circumstances. The generosity and commitment of influential people such as Brosnan and Neeson is crucial to building a world fit for children."
