Crisis Appeal - 9 February 2005
Guyana has been struck by one of the worst disasters ever to hit the country. At least 100,000 children have been affected by the torrential rainfalls and consecutive flooding. UNICEF is therefore assisting the communities by providing access to safe drinking water, rehabilitating school buildings, and providing food, blankets, sanitation items and personal hygiene products. UNICEF, through a network of volunteers giving psycho-social support and taking up recreational and educational activities, ensures that children are taken care of in provisional shelters.
