Immediate Needs: For Children Affected by Cold Weather - 14 July 2004
A total of 34 provinces in the south and central highlands of Peru are being affected by severe cold weather, snowstorms and heavy rains since the last week of June. According to the Civil Defence authorities, 107,257 people have been affected, and eighteen children under the age of one have died due to acute repiratory infections. The situation is expected to worsen as we approach the coldest peaks of winter in August and September.
