IKEA Foundation supported UNICEF community educational project in India.

The largest corporate cash donor to UNICEF, IKEA Foundation has committed more than $200 million in both cash and in-kind donations to UNICEF’s programs to save and improve the lives of children and their families.  For more than 10 years, IKEA has been a key supporter, contributing to UNICEF’s work through philanthropic donations, sales of UNICEF Greeting Cards, cause-related marketing promotions, in-kind assistance and national-level fundraising and promotional activities by IKEA customers and employees around the world.  But what makes IKEA a true partner, is the company’s deep commitment to social responsibility and their direct engagement with issues affecting children. They have truly joined with UNICEF to tackle issues like child labor at their root causes.

Corporate Engagement

In the context of IKEA’s commitment to socially responsible practices, IKEA Foundation partners with UNICEF through integrated approaches to support children and women and their opportunities for learning and developing including addressing child labor issues.  IKEA Foundation is committed to supporting UNICEF programs contributing to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. In addition to providing financial support for child protection, education and health programs in countries like India, Pakistan and China, IKEA also works with UNICEF to provide expertise and knowledge gained over the years on addressing labor issues in the supply chain.

Long Term Investment: Over 10 years of Partnering in India

For more than ten years, UNICEF has partnered with the IKEA Foundation to deliver tangible results for millions of children and women in India.  By the end of 2012, funding from the IKEA Foundation will have enabled UNICEF to help over 74 million children in India create a better future for themselves and their families.  The IKEA Foundation's investment in India helps to promote children's rights to education and protection, and supports the improvement of child survival (by combating malnutrition and improving water and sanitation conditions).  While some remarkable results have been achieved thanks to the ten year partnership, many challenges remain.  For more information on the impact of more than ten years of partnership in India, please click here.

Leveraging their global network:  Soft Toy Promotion

Adding yet another layer to the partnership, IKEA also uses its global reach to educate consumers about children’s issues through advocacy campaigns in their stores and to conduct cause-related marketing campaigns in support of UNICEF.  For the past nine years, IKEA Foundation has joined together with IKEA Stores around the world to make a donation for each soft toy sold during the holiday season. This program has generated more than $35million to-date in support of UNICEF education programs, thereby helping to provide a better future for countless children around the world.
