Technical project coordinator: innovation, Division of Communication, New York Headquarters (Consultancy)
Background
UNICEF is looking to engage technical project management services for multiple projects in the Innovation Group in New York.
Specific activities will include:
1. Project coordination lead on multiple RapidSMS projects. Coordinate the ongoing project planning:
- With RapidSMS project managers with knowledge sharing, coordination of resources, scoping, hiring and telecoms negotiations
- Giving technical oversight of deployment, knowledge sharing, development methodologies and team-building
- Providing oversight in monitoring and evaluation framework, manage turning evaluation into next iteration or project reporting
- Providing collective documentation of projects - synthesizing various RapidSMS projects into singular narrative
- Coordinating the continued development of community and quality of code-base
2. Fellows Program Development
Coordinate the project definition, project development and web interface of the UNICEF Innovation Fellows programme. Help launch various prototypes of system with external parties, identify further needs, weaknesses, and next steps.
3. Innovations Website
Coordinate development of the innovations website - including project coordination, project definition (both evaluating the first phase and working with project team to prioritize next phase)
4. Agile Fit for Purpose
Work with appropriate Centres in UNICEF Supply Division, as well as external parties to help produce frameworks and strategies for implementing agile thinking in product development, contracting, system development and quality control.
5. Participation as appropriate in courses that UNICEF Innovation is engaged in
Participation and technical guidance in colloquiums and university courses as appropriate, presentation of UNICEF activities and collection of best practices for interacting with academia both technically and programmatically
6. Participate in the storytelling exercise around UNICEF and Innovation
Continued development of RapidSMS visual vocabulary, assessment of possible needs of presentations, coordination with designer to keep presentations consistent and up to date.
Presentations and their associated notes for use by other internal parties, and by SD/Innovation to illustrate innovative work being done in various areas.
7. Will be asked to travel in line with UNICEF rules and regulations to perform tasks outlined.
8. May be asked to work weekends
Knowledge and Skills:
It is required that the project coordinator has at least 8 years experience with demonstrated results in the following areas:
. Innovative uses of technology for development
. Strong comprehension of theory related to human interaction with websites, information architecture, usability, accessibility, interaction design.
. Expertise in all related technology and processes involving the creation of websites, web applications and software
. In depth knowledge of project planning and iterative development
. Working knowledge of XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, ASP, PHP, SQL, PYTHON, XML and other scripting languages
. Experience working in a non-profit organization
. Possess strong organizational and detail oriented skills
. Ability, and experience, to coordinate communications locally and globally
. Self motivated and results oriented
. The company/contractor must be on the leading edge with respect to knowledge of new technologies and innovations in development and in the market.
. Able to travel, in line with UNICEF travel policies
. Proven ability to deliver under tight deadlines
It is required that the project coordinator have:
. Demonstrated communication and relationship building skills
. Good oral and written presentation skills
. Experience in creating spaces and environments that are conducive to team participation and effective coordination
. Proven capacity to work with and lead collaborative teams across different locations and with different technical skills
. Experience in budgeting and coordinating large scale projects
. Clear upward communication and management skills
Contract Duration - 1 year institutional contract agreement
Payment Plan - Payment based on outputs to deliverables, certified upon monthly review with supervisor.
