Leeda lives in Lpeach, a small village in the impoverished province of Prey Veng. When Leeda was eight, her father died and the family's situation, already precarious, became untenable. Her mother had no support and could not find a job that would allow her to take care of Leeda and her two younger brothers. In the end, she left her children behind to look for work first in Neak Leoung, a small ferry harbour town, and more recently in Phnom Penh, where she earns $25 a month working in a shoe factory. |
