UNICEF's Chief of Child Protection Karin Landgren says conflict is a lethal assault on childhood: 2 million children have died in conflict since 1990, and 6 million have been permanently disabled or injured. UNICEF plays an active role in helping to keep children safe both during and after armed conflict, and works to put children's rights at the centre of the world's agenda.
