Definitions of the indicators Main data sources
 
Low birthweight - Less than 2,500 grams. Low birthweight - UNICEF, Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS), Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) and World Health Organization (WHO).
Underweight - Moderate and severe - below minus two standard deviations from median weight for age of reference population; severe - below minus three standard deviations from median weight for age of reference population. Breastfeeding - DHS, MICS and UNICEF.
Wasting - Moderate and severe - below minus two standard deviations from median weight for height of reference population. Underweight, wasting and stunting - DHS, MICS, WHO and UNICEF.
Stunting - Moderate and severe - below minus two standard deviations from median height for age of reference population. Salt iodization - MICS, DHS and UNICEF.
Vitamin A - Percentage of children aged 6-59 months who have received a high dose of vitamin A capsules within the last six months. Vitamin A - UNICEF field offices and WHO.
