UNICEF wins 2006 Webby Award: Thanks for your support!

People's Voice Webby Award winner! The online ‘State of the World’s Children 2006’ includes profiles of excluded and invisible children in text, video and audio form, the full report in PDF, customizable charts and many more interactive features.

NEW YORK, USA, 10 May 2006 – We are proud to announce that UNICEF’s online multimedia presentation, ‘The State of the World's Children 2006’, has won a 2006 Webby Award in the charitable organizations/non-profit category. The award-winning presentation brings to life UNICEF’s flagship global report with interactive features, photos and videos in which children tell their own stories.

To all of you who responded to our recent requests and voted for UNICEF in the People’s Voice Webby Award competition, we offer our heartfelt thanks. Your support has helped UNICEF heighten international attention to the ‘excluded and invisible’ children profiled in ‘The State of the World’s Children’.

“This Webby Award is a testament to the commitment and dedication of the women and men of UNICEF who work on behalf of the world's children,” said Stephen Cassidy, Chief of UNICEF’s Internet, Broadcast and Image Section. “We are very grateful to everyone at UNICEF who contributed to this fantastic effort and to all of our online supporters worldwide.”

The Webby Awards, also known as the ‘Oscars of the Internet’, are organized by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, which received a record 5,500 entries from sites in more than 40 countries this year.

Webby winners were announced yesterday in 69 business, consumer, culture and non-profit categories. In addition, Internet users around the world cast more than 300,000 votes for their favourite nominated sites as part of the People's Voice Webby Awards.
