South Africa Development IndicatorsSouth Africa Development Indicators is used to compile and disseminate data on human development and in particular the situation of children in South Africa. It is a powerful database system with simple and user-friendly features that produce tables, graphs, and maps for inclusion in reports, presentations, and advocacy materials. The database currently consists of 6.650 data entries against 128 indicators organised by Millennium Development Goals and 8 sectors (demography, economy, education, environment, health, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, protection). Data is available at three geographical levels (national, provincial, and district) mainly for the period 1994-2008 and has been derived from 64 different sources. Metadata provided for each indicator describes the definition, methodology and additional comments.
South Africa Development Indicators can be accessed online here or can be installed on your PC as an integrated desktop application. The intuitive user interface provides easy navigations and is the same for both desktops and web browsers. The toolbar has buttons to help you easily navigate through the system so that you can now focus on data analysis. Just click on the data export button to share the data in many formats – as XLS, XML, HTML or PDF. The powerful wizards guide you through the process of creating tables, graphs and maps. South Africa Development Indicators is a customised country version of DevInfo. The DevInfo platform was developed by UNICEF in cooperation with the UN System to assist the UN and Member States in tracking progress toward the Millennium Development Goals. The most common DevInfo users include UN country teams, national statistical offices, planning ministries, and district planners. Frequent users also comprise members of the media (for reporting and tracking human development data) and educational institutions (for analyzing data and helping students gain data access). The e-learning module gives you a step-by-step presentation of the various features. There are three courses that explain how you can use DevInfo for informed decision making. For each course you can take some exciting quizzes to assess your understanding. Alternatively, download the User’s Guide here. Links South Africa Development Indicators online
