UNICEF recognises that sport and play can be powerful vehicles for working with disadvantaged and vulnerable children. Regular physical activity is essential for the physical, mental, psychological and social development of children and teens. Sport is also an ideal entry point for child, youth and community programmes. Senaone Secondary School is one of a number of schools that are implementing ‘Sport for Development’.  As part of the Sport for Development programme, the school will be hosting a community school sports festival, to strengthen inter-school collaboration and promote sport in the community. Football, netball, volleyball and basketball will be played on the schools new multi-purpose playing facilities, which have just been completed as part of UNICEF’s support to the school.
We hope that you will be able to join us on this special day, to celebrate child – and community – development through sport.
