UNICEF, Social Development and Social Security Agency to sign an agreement to fight child poverty.
Johannesburg, 20 April 2007 - The Minister of Social Development, Dr Zola Skweyiya is to preside over the signing of a partnership between the Department of Social Development, SA Social Security Agency and the United Nations Children’s Fund on Friday, 20 April 2007. The partnership, falling within the framework of UNICEF’s new country programme 2007-2010, is focused on developing a comprehensive package of services for children and to reduce child poverty. The signing ceremony of the partnership will also be witnessed by the MECs responsible for social development in the nine provinces. It will take place at the meeting of the Social Development MINMEC - meeting of the Minister and MECs - who will spend the day coordinating the implementation of social development sector programmes.
