This policy note is based on a study, “Design Options and Potential Impacts of a Cash Transfer Program in Senegal,” aimed at exploring the effectiveness, potential impacts and costs of different cash transfer program designs targeted to children under 5 using a mix of categorical and geographical targeting methods.
Cash transfers are increasingly considered among the most effective policy instruments to help the most vulnerable. In fact, evidence from rigorous evaluations from various countries suggests that such programs have had positive impacts in reducing poverty, improving health, nutrition and education.
