Of all the weapons that have accumulated over years of war, few are more persistent and more lethal to children than landmines. |
| Hundreds of thousands of children, while herding animals, planting crops or just playing, have been killed or maimed by these deadly weapons. In 68 countries around the world there are an estimated 115 million landmines still lodged in the ground waiting to explode. Once planted, they remain active for decades. Another 100 million are believed to be stockpiled and ready for use. |  |
