UNICEF Serbia Representative Michel Saint-Lot and Serbian Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic signed a Memorandum of Understanding

Belgrade, 31 March 2014 - UNICEF Serbia Representative Michel Saint-Lot and Serbian Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic signed today a Memorandum of Understanding. The goal of this cooperation is to support the Ombudsman’s work on improving and protecting human and minority rights, and especially those of children and youth.

During the next two years, UNICEF and the Ombudsman Office will focus on the following strategic areas:

  • Creating preconditions for a more efficient protection of the most vulnerable children (street children, migrant children, Roma children, children with disabilities and developmental disorders, children-victims of sexual violence);
  • Strengthening the education, healthcare and social welfare systems for ensuring that the guaranteed rights of the child are exercised in practice.
  • Boosting the participation of children as advocates for improving the position  of vulnerable children through supporting the Youth Panel
  • Better identification of the Ombudsman’s role, and empowerment of citizens for requesting the exercise of their rights and seeking protection when they are denied such protection
