Presentation of Educational Tourism for Children and Youth
Belgrade, February 24, 2012 – Within the International Tourism Fair 2012 held between 23 and 26 February, the concept of children and youth rural tourism was presented. The development of the concept has been supported by UNICEF under the UN Joint Programme on “Sustainable Tourism for Rural Development”. The presentation was organized in cooperation of the UN Joint Programme and Serbian Tourist Organization.

The presentation featured five of the six projects chosen at the UN
Joint Programme contest for diversification of rural economy through
tourism entitled “Educational Tourism Based on Active Learning Concept”.:
public was informed of selected activities that will become available
next summer to the preschool and school children in different parts of
the country. In the organisation of the Friends of Children of Serbia
NGO, educational workshops were organised for primary school pupils and
teachers from Belgrade. The workshops were also attended by the fair
guets who were attracted by the vivid atmosphere and intereting subject.
The “Children and Youth Tourism in Rural Areas” brochure was launched at the International Tourism Fair 2012, which was devised within the project.
About the Joint Programme
The UN Joint Programme “Sustainable Tourism for Rural Development” operates to diversify rural economy through sustainable tourism in order to improve the quality of life, fight poverty, and protect environment in the rural parts of Serbia. The Programme activities are organized in Southern Banat on the Danube, Eastern and Central Serbia and in the region of the lower Danube Basin. The Programme is implemented by the five UN agencies in Serbia (UNWTO, FAO, UNDP, UNEP, UNICEF) in cooperation with the Serbian Government, i.e. the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development, Ministry of Agriculture, Commerce, Forestry and Water Management and Serbian Tourist Organization.
