Belgrade, 23 October 2008 – An “Adolescents’ Health Care within Primary Health Care, Focusing on Youth Counseling Services” conference was held today in the organisation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia and UNICEF. The key speakers at the conference were Minister of Health H.E. Tomica Milosavljevic, Minister of Youth and Sports H.E. Snezana Samardzic-Markovic, UNICEF Area Representative for Serbia Ms. Judita Reichenberg; Assistant Minister of Health Dr. Ivana Misic; and Advisor to the Ministry of Health Dr. Dubravka Saranovic.
The meeting gathered the representatives of health centers and other institutions that work with adolescents and youth in all parts of the country, as well as youth representatives. The conference presented the programmes of the Ministry of Health and UNICEF aimed at health protection of adolescents. It provided guidelines to the representatives of the health centers and other institutions on how to improve the quality of services and how to make them “youth friendly”. The agreement was reached that there was a need for strengthening the existing and establishing new counseling centers for youth in all municipalities in Serbia.
