The holiday of a lifetime
From July 5th to July 20th 15 children and teenagers from the Regional Social Charity Foundation “Child Protection” (St. Petersburg) spent at the Summer Cinema School “Legends and True Stories of Altyn-Kel” on Teletskoye Lake. The trip had a strong psychological effect on the children. The two-week journey worked out better than a long therapy course taken at the psychologist’s office. The children went to the Cinema School as the participants of the project named “Rehabilitation, Social Adaptation of the Boarding Schools Graduates, Street Children and their Families” run by the Regional Social Charity Foundation “Child Protection”. When the shelter's residents came back to St. Petersburg on July 20th, they were full of impressions. They vied to tell about their wonderful trip to the Altai – about a bear that walked around the camp, the cleanness of Teletskoye Lake, the mountain waterfalls and tasty “tyotya Katya’s buns”.
Ten-year old Sasha was impressed most of all. He was taken to the shelter by the inspector of guardianship of the local municipal district just a month before he went to the Altai mountains. Both Sasha’s mom and grandmom are disabled. Most of his time Sasha spent at home, did not eat enough, seldom went to school, was very withdrawn and did not have any friends – but the trip changed him totally. Sasha got tanned, got stronger, started communicating with other children, and finally, found a friend. “The fact that he started telling about it and got a friend is a big success and the result of a long distance trip with full of impressions, the first one in his life.
