Alexander and Lena return home

Thanks to prolonged and intensive efforts of the Samusocial–Moscow mobile team of outreach workers, 16-year-old Alexander P., a former “resident” of the Paveletsky railway station, and 17-year-old Lena A., who had run away from a children’s home, have returned safely back to their parents.

During one of their patrol walks, members of the Samusocial–Moscow mobile team got acquainted with a teenager who had been living at the Paveletsky railway station together with his peers. Anna, a psychologist, managed to win his confidence and found out that Sasha had stolen money from his parents and was afraid to return home. On several occasions, psychologists from Samusocial talked to Sasha and made him realize that he should acknowledge his guilt and go back to his parents. They called Sasha’s mother and told her about Sasha’s predicament. Today, Sasha lives with his parents.

Besides, Samusocial employees also succeeded in arranging a safe return home for Lena, Alexey and their newly-born baby daughter. Since 2005, the two young parents lived on the street in the vicinity of the Alekseevskaya metro station and used drugs.  In 2006, Lena found out that she was pregnant. She was frightened and did not know what to do. For two months running, Ludmila, a doctor, and Masha, a psychologist, were encouraging Lena to give up drugs and think about herself as a mother-to-be. The mobile team took her to a medical center for examination and instructed her about the forthcoming childbirth. In January 2007, Lena gave birth to a baby girl. Thanks to the assistance of social workers from Samusocial, Lena and her husband returned home to her parents’ apartment. Since then, the team has been visiting the young parents regularly.

The activities of the Samusocial–Moscow mobile teams are sponsored  by UNICEF and other partners.
