November 30, 2007: All-russian conference on the prevention of socially significant diseases within the education system

On November 21-23, 2007 Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University hosted All-Russian Conference «Prevention of Socially Significant Diseases within education system” conducted by the Youth Policy, Education and Social Protection Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, and the Federal Agency on Education, together with the Federal Surveillance Consumers’ Service Agency, United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF and UNESCO bureau in Moscow. 
Ministry of Education and Science, other Ministries, institutions and executive agencies of the Russian Federation, international organisations, heads and staff of higher pedagogical educational institutions, post-graduate institutes for teachers, other educational institutions and non-governmental organisations engaged in the prevention of substance abuse and HIV/AIDS among children and youth took part in the Conference.
Effective models and information technologies of the prevention programmes for children and youth; preventive work with children and youth in especially difficult life situation; interagency and inter-sector cooperation, coordination and evaluation of the efficiency of prevention programmes; participation of the experts of social and medical services, parents, youth and adolescents in prevention programmes were the main subjects of the Conference.
4 sections, 2 round tables and 6 master-classes, organised during the Conference, allowed to summarize all the suggestions and observations to work out recommendations for the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, for the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation, for the executive agencies of the Russian Federation, for higher school educational institutions, for non-governmental organisations and parental community.
The Conference awoke intense interest in the pedagogical community and in the experts in preventive education. It was widely covered in the mass-media as well as on www.preventology.ru. The number of the participants registered was 480 people.
