October 18, 2007: “Don’t Even Try” is on tour again
This autumn, Oleg Gazmanov is once again conducting the large scale international anti-drugs and anti-AIDS project “Don’t Even Try”. This year’s tour successfully started in Krasnoyarsk in September and then went on to Novosibirsk, Tyumen, and Perm. There are two more shows until the end of the year – in Stavropol and Voronezh. Famous Russian artists participate in these charity concerts; this year Oleg Gazmanov is touring with his son Rodion and the bands Chelsea and UMATURMAN. All the money raised on tour will go to specific medical and educational institutions that are in need of assistance. The charity project “Don’t Even Try” started back in 2002 when Oleg Gazmanov suggested organizing large events for young people to promote a healthy lifestyle. Oleg Gazmanov says that the events are cross-cutting and encompass music, hobbies, education, and medicine. He calls on young people not to even try drugs and proves that being healthy and strong is trendy. The campaign's messages are communicated to the young audience and project participants by celebrities. The “Don’t Even Try” project was launched in Oleg Gazmanov’s hometown of Kaliningrad in September 2002. Russia’s First Lady Ludmila Putina, who also comes from Kaliningrad, took part in the launch. The project now has international status because of a cooperation with UNICEF. For his indefatigable work Oleg Gazmanov was appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2003. The main slogan of the campaign is “to save at least one life”; it aims to attract attention of Russian and foreign mass media to the problems of AIDS and drug abuse in Russia and raise money to fight AIDS and drug abuse to help children and teenagers in the cities where the tour is taking place. Oleg Gazmanov’s personal commitment to healthy lifestyle is the best advertisement for the campaign “Don’t Even Try”, he says: “To be healthy and do sports, that’s what’s really trendy and cool!”
