Oksana Fedorova, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador

Since 2007, Oksana Fedorova, the winner of the “Miss Universe – 2002” beauty contest and a well-known TV presenter, has been working in the capacity of the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in Russia. During this period, Oksana has participated in numerous UNICEF programs aimed to protect the rights and interests of children both in Russia and other countries.

“When a person is involved in social programs, he or she does not only provide assistance and support to children. It also means that the person cares about his or her own soul. There is no such thing as “someone else’s misfortune” or “someone else’s child” in a strong country and a moral society. To assist children means to earn love and respect of your own people”, Oksana Fedorova said upon signing a contract with UNICEF.

In 2008, Oksana participated in the joint UNICEF-Pampers “One Pack – One Vaccine” programme and visited the Democratic Republic of Congo, where children are very much in need of vaccination against tetanus. The project activities helped to raise enough funds in Russia to acquire over 4 million vaccines to help fight tetanus among women and children in 17 African countries.

For the second year running, Oksana has taken part in the work of a peace and tolerance summer camp organized by UNICEF in the North Caucasus in partnership with regional ministries and agencies. This year, during the closing ceremony of the summer camp session “Caspian Odyssey – 2”, held in Daghestan, Oksana, together with Vera Krasnova and Sofia Rudiyeva, performed the song “World For Children”, which had become a kind of hymn for tolerance.

The joint UNICEF-Amway project “The Child’s Smile” is still another area of UNICEF activities which has received Oksana’s support. The project is scheduled to run for three years, and thanks to the project implementation, specially equipped play rooms and sensor rooms have been set up at social and medical facilities all over Russia. Children can visit such rooms where they can play, relax, learn something new and consult specialists in a comfortable environment conducive to easy-going communication.

“When a person assists another person, he or she improves the quality of his or her own life, in the first place. To be happy means to have an opportunity to provide assistance to other people; and then both your strength and your money will eventually come back to you threefold”, Oksana Fedorova said during the joint UNICEF-Amway press conference.
