August 29, 2007: Youth Friendly Clinic opening in Kondopoga (Karelia)

August 29, Kondopoga (Republic of Karelia) welcomed the inauguration of a new YFC – Youth Friendly Clinic. This is a department of Medical and Social Support to Children and Youth in a clinic based at Kondopoga Central District Hospital.

As distinct from standard medical institutions, a YFC provides a range of medical, psychological and social support services to young people on issues relevant to adolescents. The main principles of a YFC are that young people come voluntarily, the available services are comprehensive and easily accessible and the staff are friendly and inspire trust. The YFC in Kondopoga is the first clinic opened within the framework of the “Welcome-2” project (2006-2008), being implemented in the Republic of Karelia with UNICEF support. The project plans to open four more clinics in Karelia as well as to set up mobile medical and social assistance service for children and adolescents from remote regions.
