November 29, 2006: A charity concert for the benefit of homeless children has been arranged at the initiative of the “Samu Social Moskva” Foundation

Dee Dee Bridgewater

Organizers: Moscow International House of Music,
French Cultural Centre in Moscow
In  cooperation  with  the Moscow City Government and the French Embassy in Russia
Under the auspices of UNICEF

Dee  Dee  Bridgewater  is  one  of  the  best  contemporary jazz vocalists,  a  superstar  capable  of  capturing  the  hearts  of  the most demanding audiences and critics worldwide the moment she comes up on stage. She  performed  and  recorded  her  songs  with  such  jazz giants as Sonny Rollins,  Dizzy  Gillespie,  Dexter  Gordon and Max Roach. Born in the USA, where  she  embarked  upon  her career, the singer had to move to France to really  find  herself and fully realize her talent. She has lived in France for  thirty  years  now. Thanks to the singer’s public involvement, she was the  first  American  woman  to  become a member of the Francophony Supreme Council.

Her new concert programme «J’ai Deux Amour» is a tribute to such legendary French  performers as Jacques Brele and Edith Piaf, Leo Ferre and Josephine Baker...  Having  rendered  her own interpretation of their most well-known songs,  Dee  Dee, as she herself admits, says “Thank you” to France for the happiness that she has experienced there. This programme features lead jazz musicians,  namely  Marc  Berthoumieux  on  Accordion, Ira Coleman on Bass, Minino Garay on Drums & Percussion, Patrick Manouguian on Guitar.

The  singer  has  been looking forward to playing for the Moscow audience agian, who were delighted  to  see  her  performing in the concert “Jazz Triumph” in Moscow four  years ago. This is what The Vremya Novostey newspaper wrote about her performance  in  Moscow  that  time:  “Her  temperament equals that of Tina Turner’s;  she  has  a  magnificent voice of a remarkable range, incredible intensity  and  flexibility;  she performs songs in a brilliant manner that combines  jazz  vocal  traditions with those of soul and rock singing. Jazz numbers  that she performed with her Big Band acquired a new dimension and new vibrant colours.»

Dee Dee Bridgewater’s concert in the Moscow International House of Music is a  key  jazz  event this fall which Moscow fans of jazz  and French chanson have been looking forward to.

SAMU  Sociale  Moskva  Foundation  is  a  charitable organization under the Russian  jurisdiction  that  has  been  operating in Russia since 2004. Its primary objective is to provide urgent assistance to children who live in a high-risk  environment  on  Moscow  streets.  Every  night its mobile teams travel  to  meet with children who are in need of assistance and offer them human  compassion and interaction that are crucial for their re-integration in  society.  The  success  of  activities  carried  out by SAMU’s partners (children’s homes, hospitals, youth centers, etc.) very much depends on the outcome of initial contacts.  Proceeds from the concert will be channelled directly to Samu Social to further enable them to carry out their work for those children who have found themselves on the streets.
