May 24, 2006: What do our children dream about? On the World Children’s Day, IKEA and UNICEF ask children to answer this question.
In Russia, during the first four days of June, IKEA and UNICEF will celebrate World Children’s Day together with 20,000 children and their families. The activities will give children an opportunity to speak about their aspirations and dream about their future as well as to remind adults of their children’s wishes and dreams. Starting at 11.00am and running through until 9.00pm on each of the four days, all the IKEA shops in Moscow will be turned into “Happy childhood territory”, where young visitors will be able to: • Dream about their futures and have pictures taken of their new images; UNICEF and IKEA have been cooperating in ideas and activities to support and protect children for some 10 years now. The two organisations have jointly used many opportunities such as the International Children’s day on June 1st every year to draw adults’ attention throughout the world to children’s problems and their needs. This year, IKEA is investing a further USD 170,000 towards the UNICEF programme of inclusive education to help children who maybe physically or intellectually challenged to join in the mainstream of education and society. Future cooperation will include support to other UNICEF programmes working with street children, child poverty and de-institutionalisation. Our common goal is to protect all children’s rights to a safe, healthy and happy childhood. For more information, go to the web-sites www.unicef.ru and www.ikea.ru
