3 June 2009: You are not alone! All-Russian Charity Marathon is aimed to support UNICEF programmes in Russia

From 1 through 30 June 2009, the third “You Are Not Alone!” All-Russian Charity Marathon is taking place in Russia. The funds collected during the course of the benefit will be used for the implementation of the UNICEF programme aimed at creating and providing support to centers for the development of deaf and blind children.

The Sergiyev-Posad Children’s Home for deaf and blind children was selected to be the focal point of the programme activities. A unique educational programme for blind children and children with residual vision is being implemented at the Children’s Home with the active support of UNICEF. Children are learning how to perceive the environment and interact with it, how to be self-sufficient, and in this way, they are getting ready for their future social integration.     

Under the programme, the following activities are carried out:
- Construction of playgrounds and rooms to train deaf and blind children;
- Training of professionals dealing with deaf and blind children;
- Dissemination of best practices gained in the course of the project implementation at the at the Sergiyev-Posad Children’s Home to expand a network of support centers in Russian regions.

The Sergiyev-Posad Children’s Home is a leading institution in the area of training and social integration of deaf and blind children. This residential institution is the only facility of its kind in Russia: visually and hearing-impaired children, as well as visually and speech-impaired children   from all over the country, including children in serious condition, live in the institution where they are rehabilitated and brought back to normal life.

Raiffeisenbank is the title partner of the Charity Marathon.
