The 2-nd Teletsk Inter-Regional Workshop on children’s and youth environmental-educational tourism was held in the Altai State Wildlife Area on December 15-18, 2008. The workshop was organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Russia, Administration of the Altai State Wildlife Area, the Ecology Centre of the Gorno-Altai State University and the NGO “Keepers of the Lake” with the support of the Altai Republic Government, the Altai Republic State Assembly El Kuraltai and the UNESCO programme in Russia “Information for all”.

The workshop activities are focused on the development of active children’s and youth environmental-educational tourism, which promotes the creative, research and professional potential of children and youth in Russia. During the workshop session, its participants discussed issues concerning the creation of a single network of environmental-educational tourist routes with active involvement of children and young people in the vicinity of the Lake Teletsk.

The Administration of the Altai State Wildlife Area and UNICEF signed a memorandum of understanding, under which both sides pledged to undertake joint efforts to promote ecology and environmental education and prevention of social diseases among children and young people in Russia.

The workshop participants considered the decision to hold a child and youth conference on active environmental-educational tourism on the Lake Teletsk in summer 2009 timed to coincide with the Year of the Youth in Russia. Besides, the decision was taken to transform the Teletsk Workshop on children’s and youth environmental-educational tourism into a center operating on a permanent basis.

The 2-nd Teletsk Workshop was attended by representatives of the Altai State Wildlife Area and the Altai Republican Centre for Youth Policy, professors from the Gorno-Altai State University and the Barnaul State Pedagogical College as well as experts on children’s and youth environmental-educational tourism in the Altai Republic and the Altai territory.
