Today Krasnodar has officially announced its intention to become a Child Friendly City. The City Mayor and UNICEF Representative in the Russian Federation signed the Memorandum of Cooperation. It is notable that this event took place at the day of the 19th Anniversary of the Convention on the Child Rights adopted by the UN General Assembly on November 20, 1989 and ratified by the Russian Federation in 1990.

The initiative enables cities to adjust their priorities to children’s needs and interests, relying, first and foremost, on children’s views and opinions. A commitment to become a child-friendly city reinforces Russia’s commitment to the Convention on the Rights of the Child at the municipal level.

Krasnodar became the third Russian city which supported the UNICEF Initiative following Moscow and Saint-Petersburg. Currently in the Kuban capital great attention is being paid to the children’s needs, many social programmes and projects are being implemented. Joining the Global CFC Initiative will allow Krasnodar to enter the dialog with other cities around the world on the child care issues, as well as share its experience and learn about the best Russian and international practices.
