UNICEF works to prevent HIV transmission to children. For instance, thanks to UNICEF-funded projects in Zlatoust (Chelyabinsk region), HIV prevention coverage has increased from 17 to 90 % during the last two years. This means that many children are saved from the dangerous virus and can lead a normal and healthy live.

Children affected by HIV are particularly vulnerable. Many children abandoned by their parents have to stay in hospitals for the first two years of their lives and often suffer from neglect.
The majority of children born to HIV-positive mothers are healthy, yet even they suffer from discrimination during the period required to diagnose the infection.
UNICEF works to ensure that every child receives care and support. UNICEF projects help to prevent child abandonment and support many children and families in need. We also buy equipment and toys for health services to ensure that children can grow up in a friendly environment.

Your support will help us to continue this work!
