Education is a basic human right and a basis for the realization of all other rights. Education is vital to development and well-being of individuals and societies as a whole. UNICEF advocates for quality basic education for all children — girls and boys — with an emphasis on gender equality and eliminating disparities of all kinds.

UNICEF aims to realize the education and gender equality goals also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through advocacy, generating and sharing knowledge and building partnerships with a range of local, national and international partners. UNICEF supports the piloting and scaling up of innovative approaches to promote equity in education and ensure all children are learning. In South Asia, UNICEF also works with governments and development partners to strengthen national capacities and systems.
