Papers Note prepared for UNICEF Child Protection Advisors’ Meeting, 9 October 2007. MDG-based Planning for Development: Policy Interface and Synergies of Outcomes for South Asia: Report of Millennium Development Goals-related Policy and Programme Review, July 2007 This report is based on the regional inter-agency consultations on the MDGI initiative of UNICEF ROSA, UNDP Regional Centre Colombo, and UNFPA Country Support Team, held in Kathmandu, 14-15 May 2007. The regional inter-agency consultations aimed to enrich the discussion around policies for MDG achievement as well as fill in some of the gaps in MDG implementation approaches and their integration into national development strategies. This included identifying interventions that would accelerate MDG achievement; examining unexplored areas, such as child protection and legal empowerment, which, as cross-cutting areas, have potential to improve achievement across all the MDGs; as well as looking more closely at the benefits provided by joining up economic and social development. The regional inter-agency consultations were, therefore, an opportunity to discuss policy areas, strategies and interventions for MDG achievement and explore ways in which the agencies could collaborate in assisting the governments achieve the MDGs. This was an occasion to strengthen partnerships around policy level work by the agencies, which are increasingly moving away from stand-alone MDG target projects focusing on isolated and micro-ised implementation and into upstream policy and systems discourse. __________________________________________ Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes and Their Impact on Children in South Asia Workshop.
