Realitatea TV and UNICEF Campaign “Romania Takes Roots” Continues with More Emergency Supplies for the Children in Moldova

On August 14-15, 2008, UNICEF Romania will deliver more emergency supplies to the children in the areas affected by the July floods. Over 1,000 children from Doljeşti, Ion Creangă, Gădinţi, Sagna, and Horia in Neamţ County and from Rădăuţi Prut and Rediu in Botoşani County will receive packages with personal hygiene and sanitary items and backpacks with toys and clothing items (pyjamas, T-shirts, shorts, training suits) customized for their age. Over 750 children in Tămăşeni, Neamţ County, who received last week packages with hygiene items will receive now the backpacks with toys and clothes. The packages have a total value of nealy Euro 53,000. These actions are part of the relief campaign in the benefit of the children from the flooded areas in Northern Romania, initiated by Realitatea TV and UNICEF.

In the weeks to come, UNICEF will continue to distribute emergency supplies in the other affected communities.

The Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform supports the humanitarian actions of UNICEF and offered a warehouse in Iasi and teams of gendarmes who assist in assembling and distributing the supplies for children.

“Romania Takes Roots” campaign will continue for a month. In this period, the phone lines and the SMS number will remain open for donations. People can donate by calling the Romtelecom numbers: 0900.900.120 (Euro 10/call) and 0900.900.125 (Euro 5/call), by sending an SMS to the short number 879 (Euro 2/sms in the networks of Orange and Vodafone and Euro2/sms + VAT in the Cosmote network) or directly to the UNICEF account open with BRD.
