Mrs. Andreea Marin Bănică was appointed National Goodwill Ambassador for Romania
Mrs. Andreea Marin Bănică was appointed National Goodwill Ambassador for Romania

On March 17, 2007, Mrs. Andreea Marin Banica, National Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF in Romania, took part in a panel presentation and discussion on "Playing and developing: assisting children with disabilities", organized at the United Nations headquarters in New York by the Permanent Romanian Mission to the UN. The discussion was attended by representatives of UNICEF, of the Department of Public Information (DPI) and of other UN bodies on human rights.

During her visit in New York, Mrs. Andreea Marin Banica had a brief meeting with Ms. Ann M. Veneman, UNICEF Executive Director, who welcomed her in the large family of UNICEF high profile supporters.

Also, during her meetings with UNICEF senior specialists in child protection, health and communication, the Goodwill Ambassador in Romania had the opportunity to find out in-depth details on the organization’s mission and activity for the benefit of the world’s most vulnerable children.

Mrs. Andreea Marin Banica was appointed National Goodwill Ambassador for Romania in December 2006. The UNICEF ambassadors are chosen not only because of their name recognition but more particularly because of the respect in which they are held worldwide and their appeal as genuine humanitarians. National Goodwill Ambassadors play a key role in the organisation’s advocacy and fundraising work and thereby in UNICEF’s ability to promote and protect the rights of the most vulnerable children.

In 2008, Mrs. Andreea Marin Banica will join efforts with UNICEF for a new telethon, organized by UNICEF and the National Romanian Television in May to raise funds for Romanian children, under the broader theme of Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative.
