Let's contribute to a better start in life

Event in the benefit of UNICEF Romania

On September 27, 2007 SofMedica group of companies organized the “Let’s contribute to a better start in life” event, with the special purpose of raising funds for two humanitarian projects dedicated to children. The event raising a total of over Euro 145,000, which were donated to UNICEF Romania, is the most successful fundraiser organized so far in the benefit of UNICEF in the country.

Over 350 personalities from the diplomatic, political, business and artistic life met at the Parliament Palace for a unique charity event. HE Nicholas Taubman - US Ambassador in Romania, HE Tony Hagen - Swiss Ambassador in Romania, HE Elard Escala - Peruvian Ambassador in Romania, HE Athanassios Dendoulis - Greek Ambassador in Romania, Cristiana and George Copos, Mihaela and Mircea Geoana, Ioana Tariceanu, Leslie Hawke, Cristian Boureanu and Valentina Pelinel, Doina Levintza, Maria Radu, Geanina Corondan, Eleonor Sebastian, Veronica Savanciuc, Camelia Sucu, Jean Valvis, Andreea Mihai, Anca Vlad, Georgiana Pogonaru are among the many celebrities who chose to transform a regular day into a “day of fashion and good deeds”.

Sustained by Victoria 46 and organized in the sole benefit of UNICEF, the event displayed the first fashion catwalk in Romania bearing the mark of the famous designers, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and Roberto Cavalli, and as well a jewelry auction signed by Ilias Lalaounis.

UNICEF is the sole beneficiary of the funds raised and will invest them in two projects. On the one hand, a special home dialysis department will be created in Fundeni Hospital. Also, UNICEF will transform a maternity hospital into a Baby Friendly Hospital, as part of its national project of improving conditions in Romanian maternity wards.

With the funds raised, UNICEF will be able to give children a better start in life: children suffering of renal diseases will benefit from top of the line dialysis machines that can provide treatment during the night, free of pain, in their home beds, and newborn babies in the maternity hospital turned to a Baby Friendly Hospital will have better chances for a proper development.
