UNICEF Statement on Mihaela RădulescuUNICEF Romania appreciates the involvement of Mrs. Mihaela Radulescu in so many charitable activities. We especially appreciate and we thank her for her professionalism in her collbaorations with UNICEF. Knowing her dedication, we are not surprised of her initiative to fundraise for a child in deep suffering and we congratulate her for her quick response, for her power to mobilize so many forces in so little time and for her success. Mrs. Andreea Marin Bănică is, as well, renowned for the unconditioned help given to people in difficulty. For her involvement in the cause of Romanian disfavored children and for her constant support to UNICEF, especially in emergencies, Mrs. Andreea Marin Bănică was appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Romania. We also appreciate the involvement of Mrs. Andreea Marin Bănică in the cause supported by Mrs. Mihaela Rădulescu, by the appeal made during the "Surprize, Surprize" show on October 27, 2007. It is a known fact that Mrs. Andreea Marin Bănică supports, through the show she produces, people in difficulty and that such appeals are frequent in her show. We would like to remind that this appeal, as well as any other ensuing statements of Mrs. Andreea Marin Bănică in connection with this case were made in her own name and not as Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF. We would like to stress that the involvement of anyone in the recent fundraising campaign is exclusively personal, without any connection to UNICEF or UNICEF programmes in Romania. UNICEF has been present in Romania since 1991, offering assistance to the Romanian authorities and civil society to create a favorable environment for the disadvantaged children, by developing complex health, nutrition, education and protection programmes. The mission of UNICEF in Romania is to ensure that all children, including the most vulnerable and marginalized, can grow up in a secure and nurturing family environment, in which all their developmental needs are met in accordance with the fulfillment of their rights. In our turn, we make an appeal to solidarity to everyone who has the possibility to help little Teodora and the other children in need. At the same time, we make an appeal to the authorities and decision makers to take all the necessary measures to improve health services, preventing thus the recurrence of such situations.
