The 4th UNICEF Gala in the Benefit of the Romanian Children

Bucharest, October 6, 2006 – The 4th UNICEF Gala took place at the Palace of Parliament. The event was attended by 400 guests who contributed to raising more than USD 100,000. UNICEF will donate the funds for development of projects in the benefit of the children affected by HIV/AIDS in Romania. The main sponsor of the evening was Carrefour Romania.

The projects that will be implemented aim at creating one integrated network of HIV positive people at national level that will become a major partner for the decision makers in the field and an advocate of the rights of the children and young people living with HIV/AIDS in Romania.

“We are honored by the presence of so many public figures and representatives of the Romanian companies at the UNICEF Gala. This was a good opportunity for us to make known a part of the issues that children and adolescents affected by HIV/AIDS. The better the business community knows these issues, the more they will be willing to be involved together with us in solving them. The welfare of children, especially of the vulnerable ones, is not only the responsibility of their families or of the Government, but of the entire society. We need all the support we can get, especially from the private sector,” declared Pierre Poupard, UNICEF Representative.

The event included the presentation of the most recent fashion creations of Stephan Pelger, La Perla Prêt a Porter and Laurent Le Bourhis (France). The guest of honor of the evening was Her Royal Highness, Princess Margarita of Romania.

The Gala was presented by Andreea Marin and was attended by personalities of the business community and of the cultural and social life: Andreea Esca and Alexandre Eram, Ilie and Amalia Năstase, Ioana Popescu Tăriceanu (Presdent of the „Copii Sănătoşi” Foundation), Mihaela Geoană, Dinu Patriciu, Diana Lăscărescu, Liliana Iorgulescu, Oana Cuzino, Camelia Şucu. The event was also honored by the presence of the French Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Herve Bolot, the Ambassador of Peru, His Excellency Mr. Elard Alberto Escala, the Korean Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Ihl Song Choi, the Ambassador of Netherlands, His Excellency Mr. Jaques Louis Werner, the Chief of the EU Delegation to Romania Mr. Jonathan Scheele, the UN Resident Coordinator to Romania, Mrs. Soknan Han Jung and the UNESCO Director, Dl. Jan Sadlak.
