Gifts from UNICEF and Petrom for Children in Rast

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006, UNICEF Romania will donate to the children living in the displaced persons camps of Dolj County 13,000 Euro worth of clothing and toys. Out of this amount, 10,000 Euro were donated by Petrom company, through the programme Petrom Move & Help. This is a vast social involvement programme initiated by Petrom and aiming at community protection and development.

UNICEF has prepared gifts for 550 children from the villages of Rast, Negoi, Bechet and Cârna. Just before their summer vacation, children will receive summer clothes and toys – a step forward toward the return to a normal life. „By its mission in Romania, to promote the fulfillment of all children’s rights, UNICEF will contribute to support the children and families who have been affected by the floods, mainly with regard to their health, education and protection. We are happy to see that more and more companies in Romania, such as Petrom, join us with their social development programmes. We can only hope that more and more representatives of the private sector will enter into partnership with us to the benefit of children who need our help,” said Mr. Pierre Poupard, UNICEF Representative to Romania.

To date, UNICEF Romania has donated to the victim camps in Dolj County medical supplies, medicines, packages with personal hygiene articles, detergents and disinfectants, school supplies and two medical tents amounting to a total of over 50,000 Euro.
