UNICEF Helps the Children in Rast

Being part of “Cherish Life” campaign, initiated by Romanian National Television and UNICEF, on Friday, May 5, 2005, UNICEF Romania donated to the camp of displaced people in Rast, Dolj County, 2 tents – a medical one, endowed with medical equipment and medicines that will serve as medical care unit and another one where will be set up a psycho-social assistance center for the population affected by floods. UNICEF also donated personal hygiene items, detergents, disinfectants and sanitary equipment that will be distributed through the Dolj County Prefecture. The total value of these donations is of USD 42,000.

UNICEF team also had a meeting with the local authorities, to define the next actions for the relief of the affected people.

At the beginning of next week, UNICEF will distribute school supplies for all the children of school and pre-school age in the flooded villages of Dolj County. The value of these supplies is of nearly USD 23,000.

These actions are part of the “Cherish Life” relief campaign in the benefit of the children from the flooded areas in Southern Romania, initiated by the Romanian National Television and UNICEF. With the funds raised in the campaign, UNICEF will support the children affected by floods and their families, especially in the areas of health, education and child protection.
