UNICEF – Petrom Cooperation for education
PRESS RELEASE UNICEF – Petrom Cooperation for education On Wednesday, November 16, 2005 UNICEF Romania launches the project “Parenting Education in Preschool Education in The aim of the project is to address one of the most difficult issues faced by the Romanian families with small children. Among these, one of the most often problems is the lack of opportunities for training in the parent “job” (parental education). This has significant impact on the degree of readiness for school of the children in these families, which later on leads to a high rate of school abandonment during the compulsory education years. The objectives of the project are: to stimulate the participation of children to preschool education, to support and train parents with small children, to carry out a research on the knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding child rising in Romania and, based on the results of this research, to support the development of a national policy for parent education. The activities included in the project will aim at facilitating the access of all children to services of early and preschool education that support their development in early childhood. “The financing by Petrom of the project launched today is the first cooperation of this kind of UNICEF with the Romanian private sector. It is a sign that children’s rights and social development have become priorities for the representatives of the business community. By our cooperation, social solidarity gains a new dimension. We can only hope that this cooperation will not be the only one, and that the projects of UNICEF will continue to find support in the Romanian companies,” declared Mr. Pierre Poupard, UNICEF Representative in In figures: · Over 40,000 children from all the counties will benefit from the activities of this project. · 26,500 parents of children registered in kindergartens throughout the country will benefit from the educational guide for parents “Advice for parents”. · Nearly 20,000 families from 15 counties and 5 districts of · The decision makers in education, health and child protection will receive the results of a research on the knowledge, attitudes and practices in the field of child rising in
