Fashion Show in the benefits of children affected by the floods in Romania

PRESS RELEASE

Bucharest, September 27, 2005

UNICEF Gala for the Benefit of the Children Affected by Floods

UNICEF Gala will take place on Friday, October 7 2005 – a fashion show organized for the benefit of the children in the communities affected by the recent floods in Romania. This event is part of a series of fundraising actions by UNICEF and its proceeds will be donated to improve the lives of the disadvantaged children in Vrancea County.

The event, organized with the direct support of Mrs. Wajiha Haris, will include a fashion presentation by La Perla, Max Mara, Ermenegildo Zegna, by the Pakistani designer Rizwan Beyg, by Chaumet House, and an unconventional design presentation by Audi.

The recent floods affected a great part of Romania and changed the lives of children and adults alike. Thousands of children can no longer attend classes because the schools have been destroyed or shelter the affected population. UNICEF is committed to contribute to the improvement of the lives of these children and to set all the necessary conditions for them to come back to school.

All the funds raised on this occasion will be donated to UNICEF Romania to implement the “Back to School” project for the benefit of the children in Chiojdeni commune in Vrancea County. The project will include a series of activities for the renovation of the school in Chiojdeni and for the improvement of the schooling conditions for these children. Moreover, all the children of school age in Chiojdeni will receive clothing, shoes and school supplies. “By this project we intend to improve the access to education of the all the children in the commune, in accordance with the mission statement of UNICEF, which is to “ensure that all children, including the most vulnerable, live in a family or family-like environment and that all their rights to education, health and protection are fully realized,” declared Mr. Pierre Poupard, UNICEF Representative in Romania.

The event is supported by the main sponsor, ABN AMRO Bank Romania, whose employees donate half of the total contribution of the bank. The major sponsors of the Gala are Porsche Bucureşti Nord, with the Audi brand, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Alsa Boutiques, Helvetansa, and APT. The media partners are Business Magazin, Avantaje and Antena 3.

Mr. Peter Weiss, President of ABN AMRO Bank Romania, the main sponsor of the event, declared: “The “Back to School” project initiated by UNICEF easily found support in our organization. I believe that the best way to help the children in these areas is to contribute to the reconstruction of the damaged schools and kindergartens. I am particularly proud of our action, given that half of the donated amount represents the contribution of our staff: it is no longer about the involvement of an institution, it is about people who care!”

“The involvement of Audi in the fund raise, as partner of UNICEF, is one of our traditional initiatives and follows the series of charitable and social commitment actions that our company created from the very beginning,” declared Mr. Mihai Hălmăgianu, Executive Manager of Porsche Bucureşti Nord, Audi dealer.

"We decided to stand by UNICEF in 2005. And no alone. We convinced our friends and collaborators to join us. We decided to get ivolved and to contribute to charity events that must represent only the beginning of a solidarity with the children and with Romania," declared Mr. Srdjan Kovacevic, President of Alsa Boutiques.
