Child Rights Week

Bucharest, 22 November 2012 - Not all children are aware they have rights. Therefore, UNICEF Romania is organising starting 20 November until 3 December 2012 an awareness campaign on children's rights. On this occasion a Children’s Page was created to present: children's rights, the rights and obligations of adults, 10 golden rules for journalists when they are writing about children, posters and videos about children's rights. Children and adults are invited to enter the Children’s Page to read about children rights, to answer questions and share information with other children. The campaign is supported in the online environment by: www.unica.ro, www.viva.ro, www.avantaje.ro, www.copilul.ro, www.clopotel.ro, www.cartoonnetwork.ro, www.ele.ro, www.melc-codobelc.ro, www.ghiduldesanatate.ro and www.pretuiesteviata.org.

During Child rights week, on the 23-24 November in Amsterdam is taking place the OneMinuteJr. awards ceremony. Children around the world have realized one minute films about their rights and relevant issues society is facing. This year, two Romanian children, Mircea Bogăţeanu and Alexandru Dancea were nominated with their OneMinuteJr. films: "Family Puzzle" and "Help!". Through the OneMinuteJr. initiative UNICEF encourages children to express their thoughts and child participation in social life.

Children worldwide have the right to survival, development, protection from any form of abuse and exploitation, and to full participation in family, cultural and social life. UNICEF promotes child rights and together with partners help ensure that all Romanian children go to school, access health care and are protected from violence, neglect, abuse, exploitation and HIV/AIDS.
