UN celebrates its 67th anniversary
Bucharest, 24 October 2012 - UN Day is celebrated every year on the 24th of October by all agencies and member states remembering the signing of the UN Charter in 1945. This year we celebrate 67 years of United Nation global presence and 40 years of partnership with Romania.
The role of the UN in Romania is to share global and regional expertise, good practices, to identify positive experience in Romania and to share with the rest of the world. In Romania, the UN has a role in convening different partners around the same table to find solutions to problems that vulnerable people face today in the country.
The UN is also often the voice of those who are invisible, who have no voice: children, refugees, migrants, very poor people, people belonging to ethnic minorities, people with disability, etc.
On this occasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a round table to exchange views on the main landmarks of Romania's participation in UN activities, focusing both on the historical dimension of cooperation between the UN and Romania, context and perspectives. At the event were present: Minister of Foreign Affairs - Titus Corlăţean, Academician Mircea Malița, President of Foreign Affairs Commission in the Chamber of Deputies - Laszlo Borbely, Secretary of State for Global Affairs, MFA - Dan Petre, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, senior diplomats, former representatives of Romania to the United Nations, representatives of the specialized agencies of the UN system, academics.
The Acting UN Resident Coordinator and UNICEF Representative in Romania, Mrs. Sandie Blanchet, prepared a message to mark this day.
